About Laparoscopic Surgeon Speciality

Laparoscopy is a type of surgical procedure that allows a surgeon to access the inside of the abdomen (tummy) and pelvis without having to make large incisions in the skin. This procedure is also known as keyhole surgery or minimally invasive surgery. Large incisions can be avoided during laparoscopy because the surgeon uses an instrument called a laparoscope. This is a small tube that has a light source and a camera, which relays images of the inside of the abdomen or pelvis to a television monitor.
Laparoscopy is carried out under general anaesthetic, so you will not feel any pain during the procedure. During the process, the laparoscopic surgeon makes one or more small incisions in the abdomen. These allow the surgeon to insert the laparoscope, small surgical tools and a tube, which is used to pump gas into the abdomen - this makes it easier for the surgeon to look around and operate.

Laparoscopic surgery or better known as keyhole surgery or minimally invasive surgery is a form of surgical procedure where a laparoscopic surgeon can see the inside of the abdomen and pelvis without having to make large incisions on the skin. It involves the use of an instrument called laparoscope, which is a long, thin tube with a high-intensity light and a high-resolution camera at the front. A laparoscopic surgeon can obtain samples for biopsy procedure using the laparoscopy technique.

Any aspirant wishing to become a laparoscopic surgeon should complete an undergraduate degree in the fields of science or math, followed by three years in a medical school. During medical school, aspirants learn about the causes of the conditions that they are treating. Post completing graduation, students must apply for an internship. Once students have completed their internship they are considered residents.

Why a laparoscopic surgery is needed?
A laparoscopic surgery is performed when diagnostic tests such as ultrasound, CT scan or MRI have failed to provide enough information or insight for a diagnosis. A laparoscopic surgeon may recommend minimally invasive surgery to examine the appendix, gallbladder, liver, pancreas, small and large bowel, spleen, stomach, pelvic or reproductive organs. A laparoscopic surgeon can detect abdominal mass or tumour, fluid in the abdominal cavity, liver disease, the degree to which a particular cancer has progressed with a laparoscopic surgery.
