Creating asthma friendly environment at home
Posted on Aug 07, 2015
There isn't any question that living with asthma is hard on anyone. This is particularly true if you or one of your family members suffers from it. It can be difficult living your day to day life not knowing whether or not you will experience an asthma attack. With some preparation however, you can greatly reduce the symptoms of asthma while you are in your own home. Follow the tips given in this article to learn how you can make your home as asthma friendly as possible.

First and foremost, it is extremely important to have a good air filtration system throughout your home. There is no question that particles in the air can bring about asthma attacks, so make sure you are taking the proper steps to keep your home's air quality as high as possible.

Along with a good air filtration system, it is equally important to dust your home often. Dust can accumulate and settle on virtually any surface in your home. So, make sure you take the time to thoroughly dust your home at least once a week, if not more.

While you're cleaning the rest of your house, it is also a good idea to keep your sheets and the rest of your bedding clean as well. Things like dust mites are attracted to bedding, so make sure to wash your sheets often to keep them allergen free.

In addition, you should make a conscious effort to keep all upholstered furniture clean as well. Like your bedding, upholstery can be a magnet for airborne particles that can trigger symptoms of asthma. Make sure to vacuum often and clean them a minimum of once a month.

If possible, try and reduce the amount of carpeting that is in your home. Just like upholstery and other fabrics, carpet can trap dust and other allergens making it very difficult to live in a dust-free environment. Floors made of hard wood or tiles are much better options for people who suffer from asthma.

Another popular trigger of asthma symptoms is pet dander. If you own a pet, it might be a good idea to have them spend most of their time outside so as not to aggravate any asthma symptoms. Just make sure that your pet has a roof over their head and can safely spend long hours outdoors.

Another thing to consider when making your home into an asthma friendly environment is to get rid of any unneeded clutter. A cluttered living space just leaves more surfaces for dust and other particles to cover, not to mention it makes it a great deal tougher to clean. Try and create large open spaces throughout your entire home.

You now have a great starting off point in making your home as asthma friendly as possible. Implement the tips given in this article to ensure that your home is one place where you can rest easy knowing that you will be safe from any asthma symptoms.
