World water day is celebrated every year on the 22nd of March with the aim of spreading awareness regarding the importance of water for the sustenance of life on earth. Water is one of the most essential resources that supports the existence of life on earth. We are very well aware of the fact that water is important for the survival of people and the existence of civilization on the planet. It is practically going to be impossible for human life to flourish on the planet if there is no sufficient water available. Each and every activity that takes place on earth, that is crucial for the existence of life is dependent on water. From human beings to animals each form of life is completely dependent on water as a resource. There can be various replacements for different kind of resources, but it is impossible for us to find a replacement for water on earth.
Over the years there has been a lot of miss use of water which has led to the reduction of the availability of the resource. Too much water pollution and wastage of water have made it impossible for us to undo the damage done to the resource. It is true that water is required for most of the survival activities we indulge in, at the same time it is also essential to keep in mind the fact that these resources are to a certain extent limited in nature. We may not be able to experience the negative consequences of water pollution today. But, water pollution and its depletion will surely have a major impact in the longer run.
We all need to be aware and acknowledge the importance of preserving water as a resource. The future generations will not have to face the negative repercussions of our irresponsible approach towards water. It is in order to spread the awareness regarding this idea and throw light on the urgency of the need for preservation of water, that world water day is celebrated each and every year. When we dedicate a day to a particular cause or for increasing awareness regarding any particular issue, it helps to capture the attention of people. One entire day dedicated to any issue will make it possible to increase the awareness of people regarding that issue.
We are all so engaged in our day to day lives that there is absolutely no time left for giving a thought to the environment and the resources we largely depend on. World water day is an initiative to make sure that people are well informed regarding their responsibility when it comes to the use of water and doing it as a responsible citizen of the world. This day is completely dedicated to taking steps and organizing events that will spread awareness about the threat that water is facing at present, the consequences our future generations will have to face as a result of this and the steps we need to take in order to preserve water.
Each year there is a theme that is followed in order to celebrate this day. All the activities taking place that particular year revolves around the same theme. The theme for this year is 'Nature of Water', where the aim is to explore how we can use nature for overcoming the water-related challenges we are facing in the 21st century. Various environmental changes and pollution taking place directly impacts the damage done to water as a resource. All of the natural resources are connected to each other in some or the other way. When one is negatively affected it directly or indirectly has an impact on the other.
