It's Never Too Late to Start Taking Care of Your Heart

Have you ever tried to make a healthy lifestyle change but quickly given up, telling yourself that it's too late to learn new habits?

With more and more people dying from heart attacks at younger ages than ever before, slow but steady changes in lifestyle can help you live longer and healthier.

Heart attacks in younger age groups

Heart disease is increasing in younger generation with a significant risk in both males and females. Many of the young people are suffering from coronary artery disease, which is owned by their poor lifestyle and if this continues like this then the future will be more dangerous. According to current estimates, India will soon have the highest number of heart disease cases in the world.

It is unfortunate that medical experts are currently seeing patients in their twenties and thirties with heart diseases or related risks like elevated blood pressure, elevated blood sugar levels and elevated cholesterol in the blood, in the patients who are reporting for heart problems. As per some statistics, Doctor's see patients with acute heart attacks, which can range from just mild narrowing of the heart arteries that supply blood and oxygen to the heart to complete blockage of these heart arteries. Heart Attacks are generally emergency cases and life threatening which can be avoided with proper diagnosis and treatment in time. Weakening of the heart arteries referred to as heart failure, is also seen again as a consequence to these risk factors, especially if they were not properly controlled.

Prevention

Primary prevention of Heart Diseases through the pharmacologic treatment of established risk factors will be necessary for young adults. Preservation of ideal cardiovascular health and prevention of heart disease among adolescents and young adults must begin early and extend across the full scope of young people's lived experiences from the clinic, into their neighborhoods, in their schools, and into their homes.

While cardiovascular prevention among older adults is typically limited to primary or secondary prevention of cardiovascular outcomes, in adolescence and young adulthood true basic prevention is possible. Such a coordinated and comprehensive approach will help shift the narrative away from early and progressive loss of cardiovascular health to prolonged preservation of cardiovascular health assets well into adulthood.

Some of the steps are as follows:

1.Eat well

Add plenty of fruits, vegetables and grains to your diet. Eat less salt, sweets and saturated fats. Variety in your diet is a good way to get all the nutrients you need.

2.Say No to smoking

As everybody knows, smoking is injurious to health. You should stop smoking by talking to your doctor and find out the method that will work best for you. In just 1 year, you can reduce your risk of a heart attack.

3.Don't wait to lose weight

If you are obese, it can put your heart at risk. Exercising is must with a healthy diet as this will help in losing weight.

4.Keep the record of cholesterol

Drops of cholesterol, fats and calcium are traced when the blood flows, resulting in a buildup of plaque in your arteries. Too much of it is very dangerous for your heart. If you are unaware of your cholesterol levels then ask your doctor to have a blood test.

There are two kinds of cholesterol. One is bad for your heart (LDL), and the other can protect you from heart disease (HDL). You can improve your levels with exercise and a diet low in unhealthy fats.
