Friendship Day is a day for celebrating friendship. The first International Friendship Day was proposed in 1958 in Paraguay. The exchange of gifts like flowers, chocolates, cards and friendship bands is a popular tradition of this occasion. Friendship Day is celebrated on the different dates in different countries. Yet some of the countries including India celebrate Friendship Day on the very first Sunday of August.

Friendship is one relation that has outlasted on Earth since its existence. It is not just a relationship rather a unique bond of affection, trustworthiness, care, respect, and loads of fun. In modern time, when people don't get enough time from work, the importance of friendship is being understood. This is the reason why people decided a special day to reciprocate this special relationship on a special day in a special way.

In spite of the fact that one might think that normal day is a perfectly good day to be called as a "Friendship Day" but there is a special day dedicated just for the friends is something that everyone looks forward to and is appreciated by people all over the world. The best way to celebrate this beautiful day is by spending the entire day with your special people. Use this special day and make all your friends know that you care.

A "Honey" of a Mascot

In the 19th century International Friendship Day did not have any kind of unique character or figure, imagine someone like Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny attached to it. But, in 1997, the United Nations named Winnie the Pooh as the World's Ambassador of Friendship which proved to be a Master Stroke to them.

Parent - Child Friendship

Parents should also be like friends to their children after they reach a certain age. However it is important to discipline kids, it is also necessary to be like a friend to them. You can be a friend to your child in many ways. Avoid punishing or hitting them unnecessarily. Try to cultivate a feeling of warmth or compassion towards them. Avoid shouting at your kids in public and always try to be understanding with them.

The main celebrators of the Friendship Day are the youngsters and mostly all the companies try to target them and make some profit.

Good friends are good for the health as well. Friends can help in celebrating good times and provide emotional support at the bad times. Developing and maintaining good friendship takes some extra efforts. Quality counts more than the quantity. So chose your friends wisely.
