The festival of color or the festival of love Holi is just a few days from now. The enthusiasm of Holi has no limits. Holi marks the beginning of the spring season, a season full of hope and joy. This festival brings the smile on everyone’s face.

We know you all are planning to make this year’s Holi more special and happening than last year. Moreover, we know that apart from being the festival of colors, Holi is also a festival of delicious food. From gujiya to milk peda, from puran poli’s to sweet pooda make this festival more fun. Another indispensable part of Holi is Bhang. Holi is incomplete without the bhang. However, bhang comes with its side effects. The excessive consumption of bhang may make your beautiful Holi experience horrible.

What is Bhang?

Bhang is a traditional drink, made by mixing crushed leaves, flowers, and buds of the cannabis plant with ghee and other spices. The mixture is then mingled with cold milk to prepare bhang. Bhang products may also range from laddoos, pakoras, and kulfis.

Limited amount of bhang causes no side effects instead provide you with certain medicinal and health benefits. But, when it’s Holi around the corner, we just go with the moment and regret later.

Side effects of Bhang Overdose

  • Psychosis problems- Excessive consumption of bhang can result in hallucinations, grandiosity, hostility, uncontrolled behavior, and disorientation.
  • Bhang can create short-term memory problems, lead to anxiety attacks and temporary feeling of paranoia.
  • Overdose of bhang is considered fatal for the patients of heart. Bhang increases the heart rate and blood pressure. The rapid rise in blood pressure after the intake bhang increases the risk of getting a stroke or a heart attack.
  • Bhang makes the brains thinking process slow, resulting in lack of understanding of simple tasks and leads to problems with coordination.
  • Sometimes the overdose of bhang may also lead to sexual problems in males and increases the risk of sexually transmitted infections in females.

Precautions before and after Bhang

  • Never buy bhang or bhang products from any random street vendor they mix chemicals to add color to bhang. Buy bhang from government authorised bhang shops only.
  • Do not drink bhang on an empty stomach. Eat something before consuming the bhang to minimize its side effects.
  • Avoid driving, as it may lead to accidents and casualties.
  • Do not take bhang if you are a heart patient, or have a blood pressure problem. Overdose of bhang can damage your digestive system.
  • Pregnant women should avoid drinking bhang, as it will have an adverse effect on the child and one should avoid taking painkillers to tackle headaches after bhang.

Bhang can be dangerous if taken in a wrong manner. Eat something before consuming the bhang to minimize its side effects.
