This lowers your chance of getting HIV complications (such as new infections, cancer) and improves your quality of life. Ritonavir belongs to a class of drugs known as protease inhibitors. It increases ("boosts") the levels of other protease inhibitors, which helps these medications work better. This medication may also be used in combination with other HIV medications to reduce the risk of getting HIV infection after contact with the virus.

Drug Interactions

  • Ritonavir+alfentanil- Ritonavir may significantly increase the blood levels of alfentanil. This can increase the risk and/or severity of side effects such as excessive sedation, respiratory depression, low blood pressure, and irregular heart rhythm. You may need a dose adjustment to safely use both medications.
